Trainers:
Trainers should collect an Athlete Medical Profile of each player in their team. The profile should be used to ensure that any relevant medical conditions of players are known and that the trainer has access to parents’ contact information.
The Athlete Medical Profile must be kept confidential and stored securely in the trainer’s home (Coaches and Team Managers have access to emergency contact information at training and matches). At the end of the season the Athlete Medical Profile should be securely destroyed (e.g. shredded) or returned to the Team Manager for secure destruction by the club. Under no circumstances should the records be scanned and stored electronically, emailed or discarded before destruction.
All trainers need to understand concussion management and take a no risk approach with players showing signs of concussion. Trainers are asked to adhere to the AFL concussion management guidelines and to administer concussion tests using the AFL Headcheck app. Players with a suspected concussion cannot return to the game or training and cannot play play for the next 12 days and must have a doctor’s clearance to return to playing.
